Hi, I thought i\'d post my issue here. I\'ve been interested in WinAVI for a while because of it\'s speed. I only burn onto RW discs when I want to watch a video downstairs on the real home theatre. WinAVI\'s speed really impressed me, but there still seemed to be a lot of bugs to work out, so I\'m holding off on purchasing it yet.

Okay, onto the issues.

I converted an xvid/lamemp3 avi to DVD format with the software and it was FAST. Twice the actual frame-rate. Quality not the *best*, but acceptable and I need speed more than uber-quality right now.

Then I tried to burn it with the program and immediately after clicking on the \"Burn\" button to begin burning, the screen slides into \"burn-mode\" and I get a \"Zero Exception\" error. That\'s the only error I\'ve gotten in the program so far.

So I switched to Nero and copied the files in the video directory in a blank \"New DVD Video\" disc created by Nero\'s new disc wizard. Burning went okay but there were 2 problems with it, one more serious than the other.

#1. (less serious) Above the 16:9 frame of video on the TV, there are grey bars. Not a big issue, but distracted and strange.

#2. (more serious) Slowly, as the movie plays, the audio starts lagging behind the video more and more. For example, if a hammer hits, the sound of the hammer comes after.

Of course, I can\'t be sure if this is a WinAVI problem or Nero problem. I wonder if the 1st is Nero and the 2nd WinAVI? If I could burn with WinAVI I could be sure...

Or, does anybody know of another program that will take WinAVI output and burn it to a playable DVD so I can test that?

Thanks,

Arlo

You can try burning with CopyToDVD ( http://www.dvd-guides.com/guides.php?category=dvdburn&name=copytodvd ) but I think that it must be a WinAVI issue that may be caused from you selecting the FPS incorrectly. Try to use GSpot to be sure what FPS your source film has and use the same setting in WinAVI.

I was hopeful about this, because I did leave everything on \"auto\", so I checked.

Gspot says that the video is 23.976 and since I had WinAVI on auto, the closest selection is 23.976. I could try to force it, but I don\'t think that would really do anything. The lag is SLIGHT. I\'m talking like 1/2 a second over the course of an hour. So like a frame every 3-5 minutes or whatever. Earlier than halfway through a typical movie is starts to become noticable though.

Hoped it was something simple... darn :/

I\'m glad to see that the other problem with audio (broken up sounds, like it was \"mis-burned\" to the disc) with the regular 5.7 download on the website WAS fixed though.

Here\'s hoping that beta 6 will do the trick...

Final version 5.8 will come in about a week and as willow says will elinate these problems. The best thing you can do is to wait for it.

The thing is that I never had sound problems, and I think that it is because of me using PAL video only and not NTSC which is more complicated because it can have 2 different fps even in 1 DVD! Believe me I have tried more than 30 conversion between different formats using WinAVI and except some conversions to AVI, I never had a problem.

Yeah, odd how one person can have a complete different problem than anybody else.

Guess I\'ll wait for 5.8 and then see how it goes.

Thanks!
