hello.

this is my first time using WinAVI.

every time i have tried to convert a 456 Mb AVI file to DVD using WinAVI 5.8 trial, my PC will shut down (turn off, not reboot) part way through the conversion.
i have to manually turn the PC back on using the power button.

this has happened all 10 times i tried to make the conversion. it happens about 10 minutes into the conversion every time.

i have not had this prob with any other program (CuCuSoft, Easy Video Converter, ...) other then WinAVI. the ONLY time this happens is when i\'m attenpting to convert using WinAVI.

i was using the NTSC format.
i followed the well wrote tut (http://www.dvd-guides.com/guides.php?category=othertodvd&name=winavitodvd) to the letter. i tried the manual & Auto settings for the \"Source Frame Rate\" & the \"Target Format\" but no help.
i found the 581 bug fix update on the forum & installed, but i have the same trouble

is there any known software conflicts while using WinAVI??...hardware conflicts? if so, what would they be? ...

ASUS Motherbord

Win XP Pro 2600 SP1

2 hard drives:
160 Gb & 40 Gb hard drives

K-Lite Codec Pack
DivX 5.2 Pro Bundle
DivX_311alpha

AceMega

NOTE: i even tried having the source & destination files on a seperate drive from the installed WinAVI.
also note, this only happens while converting. not while the program is running doing nothing.

any ideas on my problem?

tnkx in advance.

Did you check the box \"Auto shut down computer after conversion finished\"? If yes, just uncheck it.

If no, is it only happened with the special AVI file? Just contact support@winavi.com to get more help.

willow,

tnkx for your reply.

the prob is solved although i do not know how.

i did a fdisk (unrelated to my WinAVI prob) & reinstalled. it seems to work fine now, but i do not as of yet have all the soft installed that i usually keep on my PC.

i\'m confident my prob with with WinAVI was a software conflict, but i do not know which soft it was conflicting with. because of the number of programs i usuall keep on my PC (several hundred) i dout i will be able to figure out which one(s) caused the conflict.

the only way i could firure it out is if after i install each prog, see if WinAVI still works properly, & i just don\'t have the time & patients for that.

think i\'ll hold off on buying this soft untill some issues are worked out, although i am VARY impressed with the speed it does conversions !!! nothing on the market is faster. (that i know of) looking foward to the next release will all the bug fixes.

once again, i thank you for your reply.

Thanks for your comment!
We\'re developing the new version 6.0 and it may released in Oct. It have some new features, the biggest improving is that mpeg encoder will provide at least two mode, one for speed optimization(it\'ll fast more than 10% than v5.8\"), and another for quality optimization, we hope the \"quality\" mode can get the picture quality as better as TMPGenc. And we\'ll provide more encoder options for the expert.
