With double layer discs being $10+ each, I thought I\'d let you know about some inexpensive double-sided DVD-Rs.

Double sided discs seem very hard to come by.  It seems like all there is are expensive Verbatim brand going for $8+ each, :x and a couple of generic brands I found after much searching.

http://store.yahoo.com/dvdsupply/nedv19gedvme.html has the cheapest double sided discs that I know of (4x media)-- from $1.18 each (25) to as litle as $0.79 each (600).  I personally ordered the 300 pack, at $0.84 each.  That should keep be supplied for about 6 months.

DVD Identifier IDs these as VDSPSAB01 (Interaxia AG).  These seem to be \"consumer level\" discs, meaning they meet the DVD specifications (unlike the true garbage disks out there) but are bettered by the primium brands.

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=79618 has tests of this media ID, and I note that early disc tested were poor, but the later testing shows the newer discs to be much better now.  http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=80545 shows you how to read the test informatuion, and what it all means.

I did one test burn, without problems, so far.  Anyway, these discs seem like a good buy for those that want to really pack in lots of data in a small space (like me.)

Well I have not tried dual side discs, but I think it\'s a very good idea to have a look in those!

Thanks for the info!

I\'ve been watching the drives and media myself. THe drives are quite affordable but the media... Ouch!

When they are $5 USD or less each I will start looking at them more seriously... But nice to know the price is already dropping.

Double-sided discs offers more storage capacity than the double-layer discs, and they are already cheap.  At $0.79 each for a doule sided disc, that\'s like buying two DVD-Rs at $0.40 each.

Now, when they produce a double-sided double-layer disc, then I\'ll get excited... when they drop below $1.50 each.  Tongue   I think Blu-Ray discs will take over before that happens.

I think Blu Ray is going to take a while... it\'s been slow going to make sure they get everything right I guess.
