Hello everyone!
I´m useing the WinAvi Converter 5.8 basically all the time. Unfortunately I only get problems with converting *.rmvb files to *.mpg files.
I always get this confirm message:

No suitable audio stream, which may lead the converter to be unable work exactly?

The options are yes, no and cancel. If I choose yes it does convert but there´s no audio afterwards!

My operating system: Win 98SE; Pentium II

What´s to be done? I would appreciate any help!
Thanks in advance

Hi,

Seems like you are missing a codec. Perhaps try reinstalling realplayer or  get a mega codec pack.

Also if possible, instead of installing all the audio codecs at one go, try installing one by one. Takes more time but you will know what is the specific codec missing!

hello,
yes, just as cavey suggested, maybe you are missing some codec. you can install a k-lite codec package http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm Please try it.
By the way, please also make sure that your rmvb file can be perfectly played by windows media player!

Hello guys,

Thanks for your replies! First I tried playing it in Windows Media Player Version 9 and again no audio. So I installed the recommended k-lite codec pack and also restarted my computer. Again no luck, neither with the Windows Media Player nor in WinAvi. I also istalled the newest FFDShow codecs, still no luck. I´m getting rather desperate here!
The Real Player Version 10 was installed about two weeks ago. Not one problem with it. The file can also be viewed in Media Player.

Any idea what I could try next?
I very much appreciate your help. Thanks!

Hi,

Is there another real player file format you can try? If so, do try it.. If it does have audio, perhaps is the file itself. (file having a RM extension but is not a real player file for example.)

If it does not have audio, the next thing you can try is to uninstall real player 10 and install it again.

Hi,
I did what you suggested to do. I uninstalled and reinstalled Real Player. Unfortunately no improvement. All my *.rmvb don´t have audio in Windows Media Player.
This problem is getting more and more tricky...

what about using real player to test out the audio of the files first?

Well, the audio works fine in Real Player.
I found some details on the file. This might help a bit, at least I hope so!

Stream: RealVideo VBR Stream - Single Rate
Buffer Time: 15.5 seconds
Max Bit Rate: 900.0 Kbps
Avg Bit Rate: 531.7 Kbps

Stream: 0 Audio Stream
* MIME type: audio/x-pn-realaudio
* Max Stream Bit Rate: 128.0 Kbps
* Audio Codec: (RealAudio) 44100 Khz

Stream: 1 Video Stream
* MIME type: video/x-pn-realvideo
* Max Stream Bit Rate: 772.0 Kbps
* Avg Stream Bit Rate: 403.7 Kbps
* Dimensions: 352x240
* Encoded Frame Rate: 30.0 fps
* Video Codec: 403.7 Kbps (RealVideo 9)

Player Compatibility: RealPlayer 8.0 or later

Is this any help? Sad

Hello,

I dont think WMP9 supports playback of real media files, i tried running a *.rm file and it didnt seem to work regardless of what  codec I installed. Doubt WMP10 will help this problem as well.

I believe your current problem is to convert the file to mpg. Did reinstalling Real Player help with this??

No, unfortunately no change on that one...It still gives me the same confirm message.
I just can´t find a solution to this problem. I´m getting desperate!

I\'m experiencing the same thing.

I have WinAVI 5.8, XP SP1, WMP 10, real alternative.

1) download rmvb file
2) open rmvb file with WMP10, there\'s audio
3) tried to convert file with WinAVI, give me error saying there\'s no audio
4) reopen rmvb file with WMP10 --> there\'s no more audio
5) uninstall real alternative
5) reinstall real alternative
6) loops back to steps 2-4

so it seems like there\'s some kind of manipulation of the file somehow from either wmp10, real alternative or WinAVI.

This happens to just one rmvb file that I have.
