I would like to make DVD-R backups of some of my most-watched DVD movies, to protect the originals and also to eliminate some of the garbage one has to go thru to get to playing the main movie. So I would like to make a \"first play\" DVD (plug it in and it plays the movie). No menus needed (or wanted!).

But in addition to ripping the movie, I would like to RETAIN the chapter markers on the original disc, not for use from a menu, just to be able to skip to scenes in the movie.

How to rip and retain chapter markers?
If I have to make my own chapter markers, what is the best tool to do this?

Many TIA for an advice.

Hello,

if i am not wrong, to get rid of menus and retain chapters. You can try using CloneDVD2. Check out our guide here on how to rip DVDs. Just uncheck preserve menus in step 2

To make your own chapters, i believe Tmpgenc DVD Author is the best choice. But do note it does not unscramble protected DVDs.

Oh, man, $50 bucks for CloneDVD2? I don\'t think so.

Anybody else have less-expensive ideas about this?

Use DVD Shrink and reauthor mode to copy just the movie.

The movie will start right away and the chapters will be there.

Thanks afonic, I will try that. I have used Shrink but it\'s hard (impossible?) to learn all the ins/outs of all these tools w/only casual use (to-date anyway).

That is why these boards are so valuable!

Tried DVD Shrink for this purpose last night and it worked great! Guess I will hunt a little today to see if there is documentation somewhere of this program--it certainly wasn\'t at all apparent from any of the settings dialogs that it would work in this way.
