I heard through the great vine that they are going to start using chips on DVD\'s which will make it impossible with any software to make a back up copy of your New DVD when and if they do this..

Anyone else hear this to?  I just heard this today but have nothing to back this up at this point.

Nope but what copy-protection scheme has ever remained uncrackable?  It\'s doomed to fail...if they want to waste money on it, let them.  New copy protection schemes are like snake oil.  China is coming out with a new DVD standard too.

Everytime someone says something is going to be \"unbreakable\" it\'s invitation to do it.  The public wants to be able to backup their stuff, so there will always be a demand for way to accomplish it.  IMHO being able copy stuff controls the companies from abusing customers.  Like checks and balances.

Companies know that software, music, and movies are here to stay.  The public not only desires them but needs them.  Companies want to control every aspect of of it so that customers are left in a \"take it or leave it\" situation.  The public isn\'t going to let it happen.  They have a right to make a progit from it but the market should ALWAYS be consumer driven and controlled.
