ok, here\'s the deal.  i\'m recording on a standalone cyberhome recorder and i want to take the discs i record with it, rip them to my hard drive, and make new menus.  i\'m trying tmpgenc dvd author and it\'s great, but the problem i have with it is if i have more than one individual source recorded on the disc it only sees the first recording.  cyberhome\'s recorder automatically splits everything recorded into 5 equal sized vob files no matter how much you put on the disc.  i also tried ripping as a single vob file and then opend with dvd author, but had the same results.  can someone give me some advice on this?  i\'ve worked with vcd for a couple years, but this is my first experience trying to edit dvd.

also, can anyone tell me for sure if going through all this trouble will make my discs more compatible with standalone players?  the discs i record will play on my pc fine, but not my apex.  but i\'ve also had the same experience with discs recorded on a couple different standalone recorders.  if me making new menus and spending all this extra time won\'t change anything then i just won\'t worry about it.

any and all help in this area is VERY much appreciated.  thanks.

Try ripping the recorded DVD with DVD Decrypter and then use the add DVD Video option of TMGEnc DVD Author.

About the second problem have a look at http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers and see what media type and brand your DVD player wants!

i will try the first piece of advice and see.  about the other, the only think my player won\'t read is dvd-r.  it has nothing to do with the media as far as taht goes.  i have 3 different dvd\'s recorded on 3 different standalone recorders and my pc will read them all, but my player does the same thing on all 3, sees the intitial screen and then locks up.
