Hi,

First of all if you didn\'t noticed it\'s a DVD drive (reader not burner).
Secondly it\'s an OEM product (no boxes, manuals etc).
Probably they are the same, but have a look at the LiteOn Website at www.liteon.com as I couldn\'t find it.

They are one and the same. That site just didn\'t see the need to put the s after the model I guess. There is only one type 166 as far as I know. They are jlms lite-on drives the jlms is short for jvc lite-on manufacturing & sales. The site to get info on them and firmware updates as avalible is http://www.jlms-dvd.com

I do recomend those drives oem or retail no mater. Only diferance is retail comes in a box with mounting screws and probably an ide data cable and maybe what could be considered a manual. Most people dont need that.

Thank you for input.  I need a faster ripping drive and figure this one would do just fine.
