Can I overcome this manually by moving the files from DVD_1 to DVD_0, and if so, which files should I move and do I need to rename any of them?

Tks.

BTW this has only just started happening to me and I don\'t recall changing anything.  I use 6.3 :S

hmmm i dont think you can just change file names and make it work.. There are some commands in .ifo and .buf. so renaming the files alone will not work..

This seems to be a universal problem for WinAVI. I too am getting the same problems, inconsistant conversion of DIVX .avi files into two folders, as has been stated in this thread. Sometimes re-converting fixes the problem, but with some files it doesn\'t. I *highly* doubt that it\'s a reasonable problem with the settings because even if you increase the disc size the the largest amount (8 gigs or so) then it still splits it into two folders for no reason, even though it\'s nowhere near the capacity of the output disc specified. There should be absolutely no reason for this.  The only thing I haven\'t tried that\'s been suggested is manually setting the format to NTSC and 4:3, I\'m encoding with those settings now, I\'ll post the results when it\'s done. I\'d hoped 6.3 would address this horrible flaw in an otherwise *fantastic* program, apparantly not. I think I\'ll email ZJ Media (authors of the program) if this encode fails as well, and see what their reply (to an obvious bug) will be.

Their email btw, is support@WinAVI.com

Stay tuned.

Well surprise surprise, it worked. Selected NTSC and 4:3 ratio and sure enough, have one folder now instead of 2 for a stubborn movie that always encoded to 2 folders. Problem is now it\'s 4.56 GB so I don\'t know if it will fit on a DVD, but that\'s fine. At least now it looks like the 2 folder problem has been fixed. I\'ll try the rest of my difficult conversion .avi\'s and post the results.

I have stopped worrying about it.  If I get 2 folders, then I just go to the Nero Start Smart option for multiple files to 1 dvd and burn it.  Not a problem, Nero works it out in a few seconds and then burns.

Do nothing
the simplest solution is this: do not double click on the file when you browse for it
if you have to convert several files to make a DVD, make sure to hold CNTL then click on each file in sequence
I did have the same problem and it took me a while to figure out, and this works quite well

Another update after some more experimenting tonight. Started with a 700-ish meg DIVX file and couldn\'t get WinAVI to reencode it to anything under 4.59 Gigs and still keep it in one folder. Ended up running it through DVD shrink at 95% (of original size) compression so it would come in under 4.3 gigs, now it\'s happily burning with Nero.  The downsizing with DVDshrink only took 9 minutes, and very simple to do,  so not that much of an extra hassle.

Hope this helps some folks out.

Same problem here.

One thing that has worked is renaming the 2nd, and sometimes even 3rd and 4th (!) folder files in ascending sequence so I can move them all to one folder in order, and yes all these files are under the 4300 cap. Then creating new .ifo and .bup using vobedit and ifoedit. Needless to say this is a huge pain in the... to do. The resulting files work on my pc when I click the ifo to play. I haven't attempted a dvd burn, but I assume they would work ok on a stand alone also.

I'll have to try some of the suggestions here. Setting Auto for the format seems the most common cause of the multiple folders for me. OR if I set NTSC to try to get a conversion from a file that comes up PAL as auto format (is this even possible to do? I've yet to get a single folder doing this).

Very aggravating for sure. At least winavi is fast so you don't have to wait hours to find out it screwed up.

ok this is going to sound wrong, but it works trust me.   Set the output to 8500,  set the correct aspect ratio and video type AKA NTSC or PAL, with these settings in place your movie should end up at the right amount of space for a single layer dvd-+r. If not then go in with DVD shrink after and shrink it.

This is the only way ive found to avoid the 2 or more dvd folder bug.   I did this with a 3hour 20 minute dvd quality divx about a giant tiger that destroys chicago, and it cameout with enough space to fit on one dvd.

I am using winavi version 7.1 presently and I have two avi (divx) files with each 700mb size and subtitle files which I would like to convert and burn into DVD.

My question is why the vob files being created are not consistent.  Sometimes three or four vob files are being created or even up to five vob files and sometimes it only contain part of the movie when I played back using the POWERDVD. Has it got to do with the computer disk space?

For your info, my setting of the WINAVI is as follows:

Selected Constant Video Size/1 disk/4300mb file size
Preference: By quality
Target Format: Auto
Aspect Ratio: Auto
Output Setting: Set Chapters/150 per second
Audio Bitrate: 192000

The other problem is after burning the converted files to DVD-R or DVD+R using NERO, the picture quality has pixel problem and sometimes the picture freezes. Does anyone encounter this problem? With all these problems, I think I should try out other another converter to convert my files. Has anyone use CUCUSOFT converter before and I would appreciate your opinion on this converter.

BTW, it is advisable to convert three or four avi (700mb size) files into 1 DVD.

Hi all  Smiley

Does anyone know the answer to this?

I am trying to convert two avi files (about 800Mb each)  into one folder so I can burn it to DVD.

I am experiencing the same problems as others on this thread, whereby when I batch convert, even after selecting PAL (im based in UK) and 4:3 ratio, I still get two folders, dvd_0 and dvd_1. I only want one DVD folder!!!  Huh

My settings are:

WinAVi v6.3

Selected Constant Video Size/1 disk/4300mb file size
Preference: By quality
Target Format: PAL
Aspect Ratio: 4:3
Output Setting: Set Chapters/300 per second
Audio Bitrate: 192000

Any ideas/suggestions?

Cheers

hi Nesh,
Did you do the conversion like this?
First, click the "DVD" button on the main interface of the program, and then highlight your two avi files under a select file window poped up,... and then click "Ok" to batch convert them...

Hi Daisy,

Thanks for the reply.

I realsied I've been doing it wrong last night. I was highlighting the two files under BATCH convert. This kept producing two folders.

Last night I clicked on DVD as opposed to BATCH like how you have suggested and then highligheted them both and it worked!!! I also chose PAL and 4:3 too which I think would have helped as per this thread.

So thank you very much Daisy!

A happy WinAVi user Wink

Woohoo!
