| How to convert all video formats to DVD using Nero Vision 4 |
|
|
|
The Nero suite was recently upgraded to version 7. The new suite includes a new and improved Nero Vision which takes conversion to DVD in a whole new level. Until now people either used a couple of programs to perform all operations (convert, create a menu, author, burn) or just used a simple utility to convert to DVD format and burn, which is very easy, but doesn't give the user much control of what is being created or the ability to add custom chapters or menus. I was happy to see that Nero Vision 4 does all that, and in addition is very user-friendly. In the other hand its not as fast as programs like WinAVI, but the quality of the video that it creates its better. Also, you cannot add subtitles to the video if you have them in an external file. Nero Vision 4 is not sold separately, but as a part of Nero 7 Premium Suite. This rises the prices a lot, but the suite contains many useful programs like Nero Burning ROM and Nero Recode 2 as well as a bunch of useful utilities, so I think the price of the suite is fair. However the fact that Nero Vision is not being sold separately may discourage people from using it, so Ahead should think about offering it alone as well. In this guide, we will do a basic conversion. We will convert 6 episodes of a TV show into a DVD with menus. The guide also includes a short explanation of the chapter creation, effects and menu creation screens. As usual if you some some question not answered in the guide or you face any kind of problems during the conversion process, use our forums and we'll be sure to help!

Conversion from vcd to dvd
written by xavier_luah, April 09, 2006
Hi, wonder if anyone of you can help me with this. I recently tried to combine and convert a few series of vcd onto a dvd. I was able to convert the video without any problem but the audio part gives me a headache. The audio form the original vcd is in stereo with one side in mandarin and the other tin english. I was able to set the audio to either left or right with my dvd players before conversion. However,a fter conversion, i'm not able to change the audio channel anymore. Could anyone give me some advice on this?
Thanks alot in advance!! report abuse

Response to all the out of sync, program shuts down, or doesn't finish...
written by WydoSpyder, January 06, 2007
This generally happens on a computer that runs out of cache memory or windows temp memory. Check your windows added memory and verify if the combined real and/or virtual can match a 4.5GB file. It does not in all cases have to completely cover such a size, but if you are having the problems you are reporting it may help to increase. Attempts at re-installing the software may help, and/or if you have a bad/corrupt version of .NET Framework installed (that can cause many many problems).
I ran this program on a desktop AMD 64 2800 - 512MB Ram with moderate dificulties... when running it on my laptop 1.8Gx2 core duo - 1GB ram it runs flawlessly. Albeit once or twice I've needed to flash my dvd-rw to get it running to full speed. ADDED NOTE: for the audio guy... try grabbing a program called Smartripper (Freeware) off Downloads.com or somewhere. With it (with the original VOB or DVD) you can easily eliminate added audio channels (very easy program to use). Anyone feel free to email me here if you have further questions and/or would like to let me know how full of $h1t I am. ;) Dave report abuse

hi there,
i always use nero4 to burn my dvd's. it has always used for me without problems. i download my movies mostly in avi format. then i first convert them using convertxtodvd. it creates my movies in dvd format. maybe it helps when i burn it later using nero4, when i try to play it in my dvd player. enyway, i load the .vob's into vision4, i rename my titles, make a simple menu and dont add eny effects or enything, maybe that's why i get no errors. but to kim123, did u use duallayer>? u cant play dual layer on a non-dual layer dvdplayer. i reccomend u use convertxtodvd to convert your avi's into .vob's, then load those into vision4. create the menu's and dont add eny extra's. it works for me hopefully 4 u 2 report abuse

I have tried different version of nero 7 to convert divx movies and the only version that done it with no problems was 7.0.8.2. Just 1 word of caution instead of using burn to disc option choose the BURN TO HARD DISK FOLDER option and when finished use clonedvd to burn to dvd, for some reasons burning to disc causes problems but i have been doing it to hard disk folder for about 10 months now and have never had any problems.
Hope this helps. report abuse

I think the program is very easy to use. I download NHL games in mp4 format and burn them to DVD-Video. Absolutely no problems on playback, quality is good etc.. but for some reason Nero took 8 hours to encode ( per dvd) for the first 10 DVDs I encoded. Next 10 DVDs it took 12 hours (per dvd) and now it takes 16 hours (per dvd). This is getting ridiculous.

nero vision - audio OK, no video
written by no video, May 20, 2007
I use WinAVI Video Converter to make DVDs out of AVIs, but that app blows up often. I got NeroVision, and was able to go through that same conversion procedure seemingly OK. The burned DVD, though, will have a menu, audio, but no video at all.
I thought of Codec problems, but I can play the AVI fine, and WinAVI can create DVDs with good video (when it doesn't blow up), all in the same PC. I tried the "no video" disc in a regular player, and they did not work there either. The problem seems to be isolated to Neri VIsion, it is the only link in the chain where I get the problem. Can anyone help ? report abuse

Nerovision 4.xx
I have noticed a number of questions previously and a few answers I personally ran across in the first operations of Nerovision. First major hang-up, and one that many others have run into is DivX! I'm glad its there but it irks me to no end to have another proprietary format. Your .AVI problem is more than likely stemmed from a problem with DivX. This stinks, this is an annoyance, this is really outrageous. But, it is there, put up with it. I tested a few "Converters". The more reliable albeit less than perfect is something called "ImToo DivX to DVD. I run this converter to slurp up a DivX Video .AVI and write a DVD to disk. Take a break this could take a while. On completion, I open Nerovision 4, create DVD movie, add files, navigate to the .VOB that the ImToo converter created and slurp them up with Nerovision 4. This will take a while. Then I go to edit screen, sometimes including the enhance detail, and double the volume to 200 percent. Then export the movie file to my current work directory after checking the export properties for highest quality, and audio set to Dolby 5.1. upon completion, I quit without saving project, and I then delete the "My DVD" tree that the "ImToo DivX to DVD" converter generated, and go to the nerovision import folder and delete the freshly imported DVD-2-Nero mpeg2 folder. Return to the work folder and rename the exported nvxxx.mpg to the work mpeg file name and restart nerovision 4. In the project series I had just completed, I was storing two 45 minute PAL DivX series episodes to a single sided 4.38 (useable space) gigabyte Maxell DVD R disk in NTSC with Dolby 5.1 audio. This is where I found a serious annoyance with Nerovision4 and that is the menu thing someone previously queried. Apparently you get two tiers and that's it! So, By adding movie one, and movie two, then autogeneration of 11 chapters (12 including 000000 start point) and continuing to the menu pages. At the menu edit page I now have Movie one and movie two on a main page. Each movie has a single sub menu with 12 chapters divided across each 45 minute episode. For background I had a picture with an .mp3 audio file and this crashed miserably! It would often cause the Nerovision4 to crash-dive (just disappear). So, I removed the .mp3 and this worked somewhat better. But, the best results I had were to use the cut options to trim the movie file down to a small 15 or 20 second intro sequence from the series (a blue police call box flying through a time vortex, hint hint wink wink). Export the small bit in highest quality, with Dolby 5.1 sound. and on completion hit the back arrows and back again till your back before you trimmed the little bit out of the file. Sort of a bother but if you do not have something like "easy video splitter" it is what you have to do to get a little clip for background use. Notice above the background picture window some camera icons one is use video clip. select that search out your clipped little bit and add it in on the front or top menu it will be there for the sub menu clusters. I use the two big block layout for the top menu and then move to the sub menus and set the layout for layout 13. At this point. Check the bit about animation time, 10 second default. I had to bump mine to 17 seconds so it would get the animations full sequence. I suspect though that if you push it to the end of the clip you will have a DVD that will play the animation once then hang in a tabletop player. Leave a 5 second tail on it. As in, your sequence for menu background runs 15 seconds from start to your desired stop or repeat point, ensure that your clip is 21 seconds long. Set the animation to 15 and your background sequence with happily repeat till you pick something off the menu. Next and look at your menu trees, go back and correct animation time and spelling for header footer info as needed and if your going to make a few more? save as a template. Next to the write phase. If you have not done so, now save your project to the work directory. If the Nerovision4 craps out this will save a lot of time. Check your options for DVD quality! Auto boxes checked is fine by me. I start with best quality, Dolby 5.1 and fit to disk as needed. report abuse

I then write the compilation to an image file. Nerovision4 works fine until it goes to sleep or disappears and leaves you with a pretty $1.40 coaster. Write the Image file, start new project and select the image file to write to DVD, I even restart the app to clear buffers and markers and other messy programming dusty corners. For the purist? Open Nero burning rom and burn the ISO with that. You get a blow by blow log, data checking with a rat list on what doesn't match and generally a more entertaining wait while it burns the DVD. Not entirely necessary but it looks impressive when a guest is watching the process.
Bottom-line: 1. convert DivX from .AVI to DVD and use the VOB files 2. pay attention to the options 3. save project after each step 4. burn compilation to ISO, and ISO to DVD waste less plastic Note: Something I had been doing in the last few compilations. On the main menu screen with the two large buttons leading to one or the other videos chapter menu, I right click and select properties. From here you can move the pointer for the display frame used on the button. I move it forward from 00000 to where the episode title appears so the main menu has two large buttons with the episode titles showing. Note: Target video size at 7??x4?? forgot exactly what the ratio was 702x420??? which comes out acceptable on display through a cheap apex tabletop player pumped svideo to an HP 1080i 46" plasma display and audio fiber optic out to KLH 500W home entertainment component The multiple exports to Dolby 5.1 seems to do some serious happy magic to the generally crappie audio on packed DivX offerings. Granted start with crap and you still have crap but it is less stinky all the same. Gripe: Menu author needs some serious fixing, Audio manipulation needs some serious fixing as well. It works ok, but could use some more of that Nero bug fix patch stuff. To be honest, I have my fingers crossed at every change to whets on the screen. Menu
written by RoMa, September 05, 2007
My DVD is working well, but I have some issues regarding the MENU. I used a background image and music to it. But how come whenever I use the remote, it doesn't play. I can navigate with the controls only when the music stops, and when it starts to play again, I have to wait for it to finish and navigate again.
It's crazy!!! PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks! report abuse

written by i976, September 13, 2007
I start to automatically create chapters. Then, what happens is like 40-50 percent through the processes Nero Vision just crashes and takes me back to Smart Start. I'm using Nero 7 latest version with XP SP-2. Any Ideas? I reinstalled and all. I'm really lost here. Thank you!

Hi. I've been using nerovision to redo a tv series dvd compilation set. I have more than one of each episode on seperate file folders stored on my hard drives. I cut and edit as needed and made the first disc successfully but now i've been working on the second disc and ran into a problem. I had to edit one of my episodes and the result was that now my edited clip begins and ends with mpeg1 audio and the main part inbetween is in ac3. I think this is causing an error and i don't know how to correct it. As far as how to get your new dvd to play in your dvd player... try burning it as an iso image first. then burn it to disc. that should make the dvd playable in all players. if there are questions you guys need answers to regarding episode dvd movie dvds with chapters using nerovision 3 menus etc.. i may be able to help.. feel free to contact me at my user name if you'd like just please be sure to leave information about this message so i know what you are talking about ... if anyone can help me.. please contact me there also.. thank you :) dczaps

DVDs won't play in player but ok on pc
written by Enlightend1, November 18, 2007
For all the people with this issue heres the fix. I had this happen exactly once and figured it out. All you have to do is make sure you are encoding to NTSC and not PAL(european standard for video. Thats it. Simple, huh.

Picture quality trouble- possible answers
written by Te, December 15, 2007
The ones having trouble with picture quality, such as the video freezing by the end of the film, should try clicking "no" instead of "yes" to the question "Do you want your project quality reduced automatically so that the project will fit the available space?" This is because I found that Nero actually gets rid of footage towards the end of the film, so that the video fits to the disk. After clicking "no", if the footage exceeds the DVD space try manually cutting parts of the video such as the credits in the edit screen. To save extra space you could try not using title menus. If the footage still exceeds the DVD space, you may need to compress the video somehow by changing the format.

Delete Audio
written by roughrider , February 12, 2008
I am making a DVD video and want to delete audio. When I go to edit movie, I can't seem to find a place where I can delete the audio. I am importing a video from a DVD that had audio on it from a home video.

Only problem is the picture seems to "freeze" for a split second every 10seconds or so and after a while the lip sync runs out.
Any ideads please.
