updated for version 5.xx/3.xx
The guide below shows a way to convert
your DivX / XviD files to DVDs. I admit that these programs are not the best
way to do the job, just I believe it's the easiest one. So if you find the
TMPGEnc Plus / DVD Authoring program way too compicated, this guide will
let you convert your DivX and XviD files with just a few clicks.
Click here if you want to download trial versions of AVI to VCD DVD MPEG Converter Pro and MPEG to DVD Burner. If you want to buy the tools you can do it by clicking here for AVI to VCD DVD MPEG Converter Pro and here for MPEG to DVD Burner. These links will bring you to RegNow's order page, from where you can safely pay and download the products. Set as favorite Bookmark

No DVD burner settings
written by jules100, December 01, 2005
At last!! A really clear and easy to use walkthrough. Only prob I have at the moment is that I don`t get any options in the DVD burner setting section or speed menus. Dont know why this is but am gonna try to just follow the instructions as closely as I can. Fingers crossed.!

A Good Introduction
written by kbr, August 03, 2007
There's a lot of criticism of this software, but I use it exclusively for converting downloaded avi files and .srt subs.
I have experimented with just about everything else available, both free and pay-for, and for consistent reliability and (most importantly) low hassle factor, I have settled with Cucusoft Pro. v7.07. The main failing is the lack of information and instruction - the Help files are useless, so you have to experiment, and hope that some kind soul has produced a guide like the above. My (now) well-established process is: 1. Convert with Cucusoft to DVD, but with NO DISK IN THE DRIVE. When I get a message asking for a disk, I select "Cancel" (Abort...etc). 2. I then author the DVD files produced by Cucusoft with TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6, cutting as necessary, and adding chapters and menu. (This is a brilliant tool and tho' there is a later version(s) I am happy with v1.6 - familiarity, I guess.) 3. I burn the DVD disk using the DVD burner which is part of TMPGEnc DVD Author. (I feel that if TMPEnc authored it, then it is the best thing to burn it!) As for Cucusoft settings: - I select PAL and 25fps (TMPEnc demands 25fps); - I set the "Split target movie" to something like 6000MB. (I reckon to deal with "overspill" later, with, say DVD Shrink, and I have found that de-selecting the split option is not always reliable; - Variable bitrate; - Quality setting, Level 2. - Aspect ratio is left as is, except for some TV episodes that need to be "stretched" (you can usually see this in the preview screen and abort and restart the process as needed). - For TV episodes, I select "Merge", and split them as part of the authoring process. That's about it. I usually see a converted DVD, ready for authoring within an hour (time to process is more to do with the host PC than the conversion software), and I have had 100% success rate for the last year or so - I don't even bother testing the finished DVDs on the PC DVD player any more, just put them on the shelf for future viewing on the domestic player. VCDs are just a straightforward convert and burn (again with subtitles) - settings are much the same, but I let Cucusoft do the burning. Regards kbr report abuse

PS to the above...
written by kbr, August 03, 2007
Oops - I set the "Output quality and speed" to "Level 3", not Level 2 as stated above.
The quality is good enough for my small (21") tv, and other settings sometimes cause problems. kbr report abuse

Cucusoft frame lag
written by Souparus99, February 19, 2008
I've tried using this software with standard NTSC and 23.97 FPS and I have a slight frame lag. Trying the above steps using 25 FPS results in a very choppy display. I use AVS, which is flawless but the output takes approx 3 hours on 1.8ghz with 1gig ram. Cucusoft does the same in approx 1hr 15 minutes. So it falls back to, quality or quantity?

Malfuntion written by Kouba, June 03, 2008
I downloaded the trial version of AVI to VCD DVD MPEG Converter Pro listed above, installed it, tried to open an avi. (that I know already worked), then it crashed. I un-installed the program, but Now I can't play any avi.'s AT ALL. Windows just closes whatever player i'm using and says it has encountered a problem. Any help would be appreciated.
