Fairuse 2.11b on Windows 7?

Postby skiptheman » Tue Jul 27, 2010 1:15 am

Has anyone been able to use the Fairuse Wizard with Windows 7 OS? I have tried multiple times but the system freezes and I have to do a hard reboot to get out of it. I was able to run previous versions on Win 7, but not 2.11b FU. Any suggestions?

FUW may crash on such a system, but to completely lock windows up....
that's extremely rare...

it could be a VCM issue, when the VCM goes down, it's freezing windows kernel (even then, I thought windows would be a little more sturdy than that..... are you sure that your Win7 is running right?)

facts speak for them self, if you can run 2.10 right this minute without problems, but 2.11b crashes, than something is different with 2.11b that is indirectly causing a crash.

however, many people have been and still is using FUW 2.11b with Win 7even, and reports are saying everything is ok, there are exceptions of course, but most systems are running FUW 2.11b fine.

sorry i couldn't be more help....

Thank you for the feedback. Actually the last version that worked for me on Win 7 was 2.9 LE. But for the past week or so it has totally locked up at the first screen. Perhaps I need to do a "repair" of my Win 7 install.

BTW: What is VCM?

VMC = Video Codec Management

it's the heart of the codec system in windows,
it's suppose to be a separate entity, so if it crashes than kernel should not be affected,

but as most know, this is not always the case when dealing with windows,

Inter Explorer suppose to be separate, but when that gets damaged, usually Explorer dies along with it, goodbye desktop (Stability)

for the record, there are hundreds of things that could be causing the lockup, from low level issues motherboard bios settings (version), to high level, windows misconfiguration, or perhaps outdated (or buggy) drivers.... sometimes I have seen systems where drivers were not installed at all, Windows pre-installed drivers are general drivers only.

not sure how good windows 7even re-install is, but I know that XP re-install was not that good,

problem is, the re-install has to keep the same configuration and settings if it can, (what if it's the configuration or setting that is the cause of the lockup) re-installing will then not be affected,
re-install can only help if a component has become corrupt (very seldom this is the case)
it's usually a config problem, or an unstable driver.

crashing on startup of the program (sounds to me an issue with windows to me)

you have given FUW admin rights right?
